Lots of thought generally goes into office spaces. At the end of the day, this is the face of your business’ operations and the space in which your employees will generally spend eight hours a day, five days a week. You want it to be professional, functional and provide everything your employees need to get their work done. But one thing that many employers ignore is how comfortable the space is for their employees. At the end of the day, your staff are going to be spending a lot of time in these spaces, so you should make it somewhere they’re happy to be. The following tips should help with this.
Make Sure There’s Plenty of Natural Light
Natural light looks great and this is why the majority of us try to have plenty of it in our homes. It adds a certain positive aesthetic to any space. But why not have it in your office too? The sterile, artificial, blue lighting that’s so common in so many office spaces creates a dreary and negative atmosphere that can’t be good for productivity levels and employee satisfaction. On top of this, natural light has a functional purpose to your business too. It helps to regulate your employees’ circadian rhythms, keeping them awake and alert and significantly boosting their productivity!
Repair Anything That Needs to Be Repaired
Of course, this step is a given if the thing that needs to be repaired poses a health and safety hazard. But often, repairs in office spaces that don’t pose a direct risk to employees often get ignored and forgotten about. The problem is, these can make the workplace look unpleasant or feel unpleasant to be in. Counteract this. If there’s a chip on the outside of a window, have it repaired with Glass Polishing services. If a square in the tiled ceiling is missing, have a new one fitted. If a door handle takes a bit of effort to work, have it replaced. These simple fixes can make all the difference to your employees’ comfort.
Make Sure Everywhere’s Clean and Tidy
Cleanliness is absolutely essential for any office space. Of course, basic levels of hygiene are essential for health and safety. But lets think about general clutter too. Cluttered spaces can make many employees feel overwhelmed, which in turn will foster a negative working atmosphere. Avoid this wherever possible. There’s no reason for any office to be messy. Instad, clear any unnecessary items out of the working space to help set a neutral tone and professional atmosphere. Encourage your employees to keep their desks clear and tidy. It’s a good idea to provide drawers next to each desk where each employee can keep files, papers, stationary and snacks. You should also consider providing waste bins beneath each desk. This will encourage employees to throw waste away rather than leaving it loitering out in the open.
It really isn’t all too difficult to make your office comfortable for your employees. Just implement the above steps, listen to employee feedback and make adequate changes as and when necessary. Your business will really benefit!
